Turmeric Coconut Passionfruit Smoothie
Passionfruit, or lilikoi in Hawaii, are my spirit fruit. I find them everywhere like delightful little Easter eggs and am always looking for more ways to use them. I threw this smoothie together using all local ingredients, loved the flavor combination, and then added in some hemp seeds to up the fiber and protein in it. Turmeric: This brightly colored root is renowned for its health promoting benefits such as anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties as well as joint and heart health promotion. It contains fiber, vitamin b6, potassium, iron, and manganese.
Passionfruit (Lilikoi): Besides being delicious and magical, passionfruit are very healthful and very efficient at fighting free radical damage. They contain fiber, antioxidants, flavonoids, vitamin a, vitamin c, riboflavin, niacin, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and even protein.
Coconut Water: This liquid gold has the highest concentration of electrolytes found in nature and is incredibly nourishing and hydrating. The liquid inside of coconuts is filtered by the tree trunk for two years. It has the same pH as human blood, and can even be used in place of saline solution in IV solutions.
Hemp Seeds: These amazing seeds are not only delicious but also a superb source of a perfect heart health promoting 3:1 balance omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids
Banana: These common fruits have an array of health benefits. They promote heart and stomach health, help with elimination, and provide antioxidants. They are wonderful sources of dietary fiber, vitamin b6, vitamin c, folate, manganese, and potassium.
- 2 cup pure coconut water
- 2 frozen bananas, small to medium size
- 2 teaspoon fresh turmeric or 1 teaspoon powdered turmeric
- 1 passionfruit, or about 1/4 cup pulp
- 3 tablespoons hemp seeds
- Combine in high speed blender and blend until creamy! Add more coconut water if too thick.
